I’ve been making some large quilts lately. My inclination is that this next design would be outstanding large but I decided for a first run on this new design, I would go small. This art quilt is just about 20″ square. My technique for this quilt started with a background of pastels, pieced as fairly

Muted Colors in Landscape Art Quilt
I am more of a dynamic and vibrant color person than pastels and muted colors. However, as I looked at paintings for design ideas, I came across some beautiful paintings using only muted colors or a limited palate with grays. I made this small quilt with fairly simple piecing and just 10 pieces, all different

Playfulness while creating art quilts
Two months ago as the snow was piling up in central PA I found myself playing with fabrics of spring colors. I decided to make a Spring theme abstract landscape quilt. These abstract quilts are total fun to make. Cutting pieces with unique curves, organizing the fabrics artistically, and finally quilting creatively. I realized as

A beautiful starburst art quilt “how to”
I recently created an enlarged design of a smaller quilt I had made several years ago. All enlargements have challenges, especially as I’m usually working from a photo and I don’t make patterns. Red and Green but not Christmas!!
A dear friend asked me to make a custom curved pieced quilt for her to match her decor. She wanted reds and greens. While the color wheel says red and green are complimentary, I had to confess to her that I couldn’t think of red and green without thinking of Christmas. So….time to expand my

Many custom quilts keeping me busy
As this year began and my husband died, I wasn’t sure I could muster my creative spirit to sew. Sewing brings me such joy and is such a special outlet for my creativity. I wasn’t feeling a lot of joy and even the beautiful fabrics (well over 500!) in my studio couldn’t lift my spirits.
