Quilt creations gone awry

Posted February 21, 2021 by sharon

Last year was a busy year with custom quilt orders.  I had one custom order for a tree quilt design, quite large.  I was working from a photo of a quilt I made previously and the customer wanted the design enlarged.  I’ve made dozens of such orders of different designs but this time around, I

Finding the right fabrics for art quilts

Posted February 4, 2021 by sharon

I’ve been making art quilts for almost 10 years.  My studio looks like a fabric shop with around 500 or more different fabrics…AND YET…there always seems to be a unique color or design I’m looking for.  My late husband used to joke that he hoped my quilt business would at least pay for my fabric

New Art Quilts and my blog is back for 2021

Posted January 25, 2021 by sharon

The year 2020 is finally over and I’m glad.  Not just because of the pandemic, which has all of us learning to live differently, but because my husband died last January.  I had no idea the grieving process would be so intense, so life consuming and so difficult.  But…I am feeling part of the human

Three Custom Quilts Challenge My Abilities

Posted August 13, 2020 by sharon

I am fairly firm about always making custom quilts that are one of my designs, larger or smaller or different colors.  However, I had a request last year to create a landscape, which was one of my designs, and two quilts of cats.  I was quite uncertain of my cat design abilities!!  I’m not a

Red and Green but not Christmas!!

Posted July 5, 2020 by sharon

A dear friend asked me to make a custom curved pieced quilt for her to match her decor.  She wanted reds and greens.  While the color wheel says red and green are complimentary, I had to confess to her that I couldn’t think of red and green without thinking of Christmas.  So….time to expand my

Many custom quilts keeping me busy

Posted June 5, 2020 by sharon

As this year began and my husband died, I wasn’t sure I could muster my creative spirit to sew.  Sewing brings me such joy and is such a special outlet for my creativity.  I wasn’t feeling a lot of joy and even the beautiful fabrics (well over 500!) in my studio couldn’t lift my spirits.

Making Face Masks, Quilts on hold

Posted April 24, 2020 by sharon

As the pandemic took over our lives in central Pennsylvania, I decided to put down art quilt making and take up mask making. My initial efforts were a tucked mask with ear elastic but I quickly realized that keeping the mask on ears for the periodic community user was kind of hard…no easy way to

Curves and color in an art quilt

Posted March 18, 2020 by sharon

I often look at paintings and photographs to find inspiration for new art quilts.  I’m especially drawn to other art with curves in the abstract designs.  I LOVE piecing curves in my art quilts, a design component which I would say defines my art quilts as different from those of other quilters.  The quilt showcased

Quilting Landscapes if Good for My Soul

Posted February 28, 2020 by sharon

I’m working my way into a new normal in life after saying goodbye to my dear husband and best friend.  He experienced many health problems in 2019 which resulted in my closing down my sewing studio since last August.  Finally, in early February, a few weeks after his death, I re-entered my studio and began

  • My passion is creating contemporary wall quilts where fabrics compliment and contrast, where designs are wonky and unusual, and where the piecing lines often aren’t straight. I’m exploring the non-traditional through modern designs and contemporary landscapes. Quilts vary in size from 12” x 12” to 40” x 60”. Custom requests are welcome.
