Making Face Masks, Quilts on hold

Posted April 24, 2020 by sharon

As the pandemic took over our lives in central Pennsylvania, I decided to put down art quilt making and take up mask making. My initial efforts were a tucked mask with ear elastic but I quickly realized that keeping the mask on ears for the periodic community user was kind of hard…no easy way to

Curves and color in an art quilt

Posted March 18, 2020 by sharon

I often look at paintings and photographs to find inspiration for new art quilts.  I’m especially drawn to other art with curves in the abstract designs.  I LOVE piecing curves in my art quilts, a design component which I would say defines my art quilts as different from those of other quilters.  The quilt showcased

Quilting Landscapes if Good for My Soul

Posted February 28, 2020 by sharon

I’m working my way into a new normal in life after saying goodbye to my dear husband and best friend.  He experienced many health problems in 2019 which resulted in my closing down my sewing studio since last August.  Finally, in early February, a few weeks after his death, I re-entered my studio and began

I’m back in my quilt shop

Posted February 17, 2020 by sharon

Back in September I posted about my husband’s diagnosis of ALS.  That diagnosis ended up being incorrect.  He instead developed two very rare cancers and passed away in early January.  I was fortunate to have him home with me with caregiver support and hospice support for the last 6 weeks of his life.  I am

Quilting Blog Taking a Break

Posted September 29, 2019 by sharon

A month ago I learned that my husband has ALS.  Our lives are changing daily.  I must step back from my art quilt work and blogging to focus on his care.  This may be short term until we get caregivers organized or it may be for many months or a year, I just don’t know.

Custom Quilts Keeping Me Busy

Posted August 11, 2019 by sharon

I want to share some of the custom quilt orders which have kept me busy these last couple of months.  First, in late spring I made a custom quilt of browns, oranges, and yellows in an abstract mosaic.  This quilt was 24″wide and 40″high.  Mosaic quilts are truly designed 100% on my flannel design wall.

A Purple Sunset

Posted July 22, 2019 by sharon

A few months ago I was itching to play with purples, blues and pinks.  I’m not sure how to explain the lure of certain colors, but there are few things that calm my soul and give me a moment away from the chaos of daily life than playing with my fabric samples.  I especially like

The lure of abstract art quilts

Posted June 23, 2019 by sharon

Art quilts seem to fall into two categories…the more realistic which are often based on the use of applique techniques and abstract which are usually pieced.  I admit a bias to piecing which keeps me closer to original quilting roots of our ancestors even though I run like crazy from the tradition block designs.  It

Art quilt piecing in two steps

Posted June 3, 2019 by sharon

It has been nice to have some less busy times to experiment with some new techniques in piecing art quilts.  I recently finished two art quilts of red rocks, from images from the southwest United States.  I’ve traveled there several times with my husband.  We have always been mesmerized by both the starkness of the

  • My passion is creating contemporary wall quilts where fabrics compliment and contrast, where designs are wonky and unusual, and where the piecing lines often aren’t straight. I’m exploring the non-traditional through modern designs and contemporary landscapes. Quilts vary in size from 12” x 12” to 40” x 60”. Custom requests are welcome.
