Traditional quilt piecing with applique in an art quilt

Posted November 13, 2024 by sharon

I have tried a variety of ways to “piece” leaves into or onto my tree quilts.  I still lean towards  no leaves for most designs or I have the leaves pieced in the background of the trees so the greens or autumn colors are part of the art quilt even as they are not over

A Different Approach to a Sunset Quilt

Posted November 6, 2024 by sharon

I have made 85 Sunset art quilts since 2012 when I opened my Etsy shop.  They are all one of a kind but I tend towards colorful sunsets, marveling at how different each sunset can be.  I have a ready source our my western picture windows. Sunset 86 is a very different design of a

Sunrise 24 over the lake with a focus on the light

Posted October 31, 2024 by sharon

Sunrise 24 was a calming art quilt to design and create.  I spent time studying the light as it appears in a sunrise by looking at photographs.  I find ideas on paintings of sunrises too for how the colors present, then morph quickly.  With this quilt I went back to one of my design standards

Sunset with a new quilt design

Posted August 18, 2024 by sharon

This weekend I pieced two art quilts, one a sunset and one a sunrise.  The Sunrise is a larger quilt and will take more time to quilt and bind.  I finished the Sunset art quilt, Sunset 85.  I want to share a photo of a step I often forget…what the pieced quilt looks like from

Ocean colors quilt

Posted June 20, 2024 by sharon

I am not accepting many custom orders, mostly due to being busy serving on a local library board of trustees.  It has been 14 years since I left my professional career as an executive director of a large private non profit agency.  Joining the library board has given me an avenue to use my management

A unique sunset art quilt

Posted May 29, 2024 by sharon

I take a lot of sunset and sunrise photos from my hilltop house.  The sunset in the art quilt Sunset 84 is unique because I watched it while driving west on a local road one evening.  It was so mesmerizing with the dark blue grays and peach/pinks peppered with pale blues peaking out that I

Custom Triptych of Red Poppies

Posted May 20, 2024 by sharon

I am accepting very few custom orders these days, mostly because I have committed significant volunteer time to a local library.  I have a soft spot for some designs though so when a couple asked for a large quilt for over the headboard of their bed, I said yes.  However instead of making one large

  • My passion is creating contemporary wall quilts where fabrics compliment and contrast, where designs are wonky and unusual, and where the piecing lines often aren’t straight. I’m exploring the non-traditional through modern designs and contemporary landscapes. Quilts vary in size from 12” x 12” to 40” x 60”. Custom requests are welcome.
