I am not creating quilts nearly as frequently as i was a few years ago. A teenage granddaughter and new community commitments keep me busy outside of my studio. However, my stash of fabrics and a desire, when time permits, to lose myself in my studio creating and playing with fabric is still a fun activity for me.
I’ve had some technical bumps in the road to contend with which stretch my computer skills! Etsy decided not to offer direct links to Pinterest for boards which act as a great marketing option. Of course I read this and thought, OK, I’ll find a new way to post on Pinterest. Little did I know that every post on Pinterest I’d made in the last decade from Esty would be erased forever!! I’m still trying to figure out what to do as I get many referrals from Pinterest for Etsy. This is a project for a rainy day and a clear head ready for some problem solving.
I made some small art quilt tops which I haven’t yet finished but I took with me for a trunk show to our local quilt guild. They are a traditional group who work mostly in squares but they were eager to see my less than traditional way of creating art quilts. Plus they are a crowd who loves to see the backs of tops so they can understand the piecing easier. Those three tops are awaiting quilting.
Last week I was feeling a desire to work with blues and think about the ocean for a few days. I created Ocean Colors 6, a 26’W x 40″H art quilt of ocean colors. I had purchased some interesting fabrics in a variety of blues I wanted to use. I had fun with this quilt as I tried to give it more movement and variety with pieces moving less just across the quilt and more diagonally on the quilt. I used only two different free motion designs in the quilting. It is now available on Etsy in my shop: www.etsy.com/shop/ArtQuiltsBySharon
Enjoy your summer sewing and as always, send comments or questions.
