Farmland as a patchwork art quilt

As a resident of central Pennsylvania, I have spent most of my life enjoying the beautiful patchwork of the farm fields all over the state.  I have saved paintings and photographs of these patchwork landscapes, vowing to one day try to make an art quilt.  That day arrived in the last two weeks!

I consider this my All-Season Farm patchwork art quilt.  I wanted to capture the different colors throughout the growing and harvest seasons along with rough farm roads or paths around these fields.  Selecting the fabrics was fabulous fun as was figuring out how to quilt each patch.  I don’t have any factory farms around me, just small family farms with many different sections for different crops, rotated year to year.  I didn’t want to have a squarish design, hence the curved design with different shaped sections, a bit more like the nature contours of the land which a farmer must work around.
