Crazy December with Custom orders

Somehow the month of December is slipping by and I’ve been delinquent on my blog posts….something I promised myself I would never do!  Never say never, I guess.  I ended up with two large custom orders around Thanksgiving which have filled my weeks.  The push to get those both done and mailed in time for Christmas consumed my time but in a good way.  Both were enlargements of previous quilts so not super challenging but working with larger sizes is always a bit exciting.   My Bernina 750 is most comfortable to use for free motion quilting a wall quilt with the largest dimension 36″.  When I’m working on a design with dense free motion quilting, the quilt itself becomes more stiff as it is quilted which then feels like you are bending cardboard to fit the quilt in and out while sewing.  It becomes an upper body exercise!!  You can see a picture of the finished quilt, 39″ x 47″.  For a quilt this size I put a dowel in a sleeve for the top for hanging and on the bottom for stability.  It is en route to it’s new home on the west coast.

After Christmas I will return with more regular blogs.  I’ve been working on some new poppy designs that are exciting and beautiful when finished but puzzles to piece while I’m working on them…more on that next week.

Have a happy holidays!
