Trees 58 with Wildflowers

I’m in between some projects I work on at my local library so time to sew and create.  I created Trees 58 depicting a spring/summer time in the woods with lots of greenery and periodic peeks of sky through the canopy from the many trees.  The wildflowers were a late in the design game addition. I wanted some other artistic interest in the quilt and my rather messy studio had several piles of scraps of fabric with small flowers.  They were perfect.  There was the fabric with purple and yellow flowers, the dark green with yellow and pink flowers and the light green with white flowers.  Unfortunately, I’m down to my last craps of these fabrics but thankfully I had enough for this art quilt.

I realized as I worked my way through a sketchy design, sorted fabrics for the trees, and found the right blues for the sky that even with good planning, I’m always changing design strategies as the quilt comes together.  For me, that is part of the fun of abstract art quilts.  And, per usual, there was one time I needed to rip off a piece and redo it.  It is so important to step back and look at your progress from about 10′ away to really evaluate your design effort.
