Gallery hanging systems have always created a challenge for my art quilts which hang from the ends of the dowel inserted in a sleeve on the upper back (all hidden from a view of the quilt). I’ve received some invitations to submit quilts for gallery shows but they require a split sleeve with a dowel. I decided to change my hanging system.
I’ve been making quite a few medium to smaller quilts for which a plastic ring in the two upper corners works just fine. However for quilts needing the support of a dowel in a sleeve, I’m going to try the split sleeve approach. Since the dowel is still inserted through the two sleeve sections with a bit of dowel extending on either side, customers will be able to choose how to hang their art quilts….either with a nail in the middle or with a nail on either end.
