I have been experimenting with my preferred way of piecing, traditional, with raw edges on the quilt top back, with additional piecing using raw edge appliqué. My most recent wall quilt, a “Bright Autumn Day” , does just this. I pieced the landscape background and then added five leafy trees. I did some free motion quilting on the foreground, sky, and background and on several of the trees. I also did some thread sketching which added in tree trunks and branches. I uniquely quilted the sky with a free motion meandering which highlighted the blue parts of the sky fabric.
This is a bright quilt, hence the name. Sometimes my tree quilts are much less bright due to woodsy settings and darker tree trunks which dominate the design. This was fun to try something different.
