Cleaning the Sewing Studio

I have had a NO SEWING summer so far!  I got involved with my local library and their big auction fundraiser so my time has be otherwise occupied.  I hope to change that this weekend and get into some new art quilt projects.

While on this sewing hiatus I decided my stash of “more fabrics than is possible to have” needed to be reorganized and sorted.  I have shelves filled, small bids filled and large bins filled.  And yet, I buy more!

I did not decided to gve anything away but rather I did move some colors around and put less used items on lower shelves….less bending in the future.  I share my photos only as ideas of anyone else trying to figure out how to manage large quantities of fabric.  The large bookcase was one my father made probably 40 years ago.  The smaller sections work perfectly for all the different colors I sort by.

I have bins in the smaller bookcases with larger scraps.  Bins in the closet have smaller scraps.  It is safe to say I rarely throw anything away!

Everytime I travel by air and worry something might happen to me, I send a letter to my sister who is my executer and power of attorney, pre-emptively apologizing for the state of my sewing studio.  She and I had to clean out our mother’s sewing room after she died unexpectedly on a vacation back in 2006.  Our mother was very neat so things were easy to sort.  My poor sister will just need to find a quilt guild to call in to take everything!!

I’m leaning towards some new sunset or sunrise art quilt ideas.  Maybe some thread painting too on some flower quilts. Watch for a new post in a week or so.

Have a good wind down to your summer!

Sharon
