Another art quilt of a Raven

A quilting friend introduced me to creating Raven quilts.  For me, this is a combination quilt as it involves some traditional piecing, of the background, with some raw edge applique for the bird itself.  I studied Raven paintings and saw a lot of Ravens with moons.  But, truth be told, Raven’s are not nocturnal so I’ve kept my designs with the sun and not the moon.

I used one blender black fabric for the body of the bird and three tail feathers added to the tail.  I used a different blender fabric for the wings which has a medium gray abstract design on the black fabric which seemed to mimic feathers.

This art quilt was created on my sewing machine.  I used a variety of free motion stitch designs for the quilt stitching.  It is fun to try some different design ideas!
